Anold laptop I had (not Alienware) had a program that can put the battery in some partially-charged mode, which is helpful in extending the life of the battery if you're using the laptop mostly with the charger plugged in. It would charge to 50% or so, and stop there. I'd have to switch it to normal mode to get the battery to charge up to 100%.
Alsonote that laptop batteries last about 3 years. Some a bit more some less. They need to be replaced. The power cord to the computer is not interchangeable. They are specific to your make and model.
InWindows, the battery meter displays "no battery detected" or "plugged in and not charging". At first I thought my battery was simply getting old, but out of accident I forgot to plug the AC adapter in and the computer ran off the battery for ~1.5h, even though Windows didn't recognise a battery.
Goto the device manager and uninstall the ACPI driver under batteries, and reboot. Windows will automatically reinstall it. Windows 7 is notorious for this problem. It is possible that your battery is shot, but i would try this first. also, pull your battery out and put it back in. one time that was the simple fix to this problem for me.
No it's working just fine, the "plugged in, not charging" is a setting that stops the charger from overcharging the battery, to make it last longer, just leave it alone, it will start back up the charging sooner or later. Unless the battery is going lower and lower then that's an indication of a charger port problem. [deleted] • 3 yr. ago. c4Frqx.
